1. Don't buy the first house you see.
2. Find the right place for you in the right location. If you want to be close to your child's school or your work then look in these areas.
3. It may be obvious but is worth repeating, buy a house you can afford.
4. Think about the future and where you see yourself and/or your family in five or ten years. Will this house allow for children or more children? If you plan to move after a few years think about the value of the house. If you resell will you see a good return for your investment?
5. Only buy a house if you are truly happy with everything about it. If you don't like the way it looks or don't want to do any major repairs on an old house, then don't buy.
